Mary Skipper

Current job: Has been the superintendent of Somerville’s approximately 5,000 public school students for seven years.

Experience: Before joining Somerville, she worked for BPS, overseeing 34 high schools with 19,500 total students. During her time at BPS, Boston high schools had the lowest drop-out and the highest graduation rates in BPS history. Skipper helped launch TechBoston Academy as the founding headmaster in 2002, according to BPS.

Education: Skipper holds a bachelor’s degree in English and Latin from Tufts University, a master’s degree in education policy from Harvard and a master’s in education leadership from Columbia Teachers College.
